Only the second Australian to be elected to the international position, Mr Harper said he would continue to push the attraction and retention of younger people to the industry by providing opportunities for career development.

He also backed professional development in the industry, saying that “better people make for better business”.

Mr Harper said that recent research indicated that people with a professional qualification and membership of a key professional institution, earn over their career, about $200,000 more than their counterparts.
