Hunter coal capacity cut
Port Waratah Coal Services (PWCS) will cut export capacity through the port of Newcastle next month in a bid to reduce the size of the queue off the port.
Capacity rations trimmed
The terminal operator expects the number of waiting ships to reach 31 by the end of the month.
The 1m tonne cut to capacity comes as the Hunter coal chain battles coal availability issues from the region's mines, as well as disruptions caused by emergency trackwork and bad weather.
PWCS cited "train utilisation issues" as also having had a role.
The terminal operator said the coal chain was presently operating at an annualised rate of 85m tonnes.
It had exported 32.2m tonnes so far in 2009.
