Port Bonython development application lodged

by Rob McKay last modified May 26, 2009 01:20 PM

Port Bonython Fuels yesterday lodged a development application with the South Australian Government for the construction and operation of its fuel storage and distribution facility at Port Bonython in the state's Upper Spencer Gulf.

The SA Government had recently agreed to terms with Port Bonython Fuels (85% owned by Stuart Petroleum) on the sale of 74 ha of land adjacent to the jetty at Port Bonython for the terminal site.

"Construction is scheduled for completion approximately 15 months after approval of the development application and final investment decision," Stuart Petroleum managing director Tony Guglielmo said.

"A second stage of the development, to comprise additional storage facilities and a diesel fuel refinery, is planned to cater for expanding demand in the region.”

Subject to all approvals and final investment decision, the new terminal is expected to be operational in mid 2011.

The Port Bonython Project has been designated a Crown Sponsored Development under the state's Development Act and it will be subject to review by the South Australian Development Assessment Commission, Stuart Petroleum said.

The commission will then make a recommendation in relation to the project to state minister for urban development and planning Paul Holloway.
