Quarantine unchanged
THE AUSTRALIAN Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) said its procedures for vessels and people arriving in Australia would not change, despite the continued threat of swine flu.
The potentially-deadly virus which spread from Mexico to Europe and parts of Asia, prompted a review of commercial airline screening systems globally.
Commercial ships are required to submit a Quarantine Pre-arrival Report between 12 and 96 hours before arrival with similar procedures for cruise and naval vessels.
AQIS national seaports manager Peter Neimanis said the requirements for visiting ships would not change.
“These normal processes will continue to be followed,” Mr Neimanis said in a letter to ship agents.
