US bulker repels pirate attack off Mombasa

A US-flagged bulk carrier was yesterday able to repel a pirate attack about 360 nautical miles off the Kenyan city of Mombasa.
According to a spokesman for the US Fifth Fleet, two skiffs, each carrying around half a dozen pirates, came within a metre of the 1978-built, 25,515 dwt Harriette, which is associated with New York state-based Sealift.
The merchant vessel was fired...
