Adelaide opens renovated cruise passenger terminal
The $500,000 upgrade of the passenger terminal at Port Adelaide’s Outer Harbor was opened today, just in time for the cruise ship season.
Flinders Ports and the South Australian Government carried out the facelift, which took five months to complete, in an effort to lift the aging facility's standard to that of Adelaide’s improved airport.
Features of the revamped terminal include a new road/traffic system into the terminal precinct, a direct walkway from the terminal to the nearby Outer Harbor railway station and improved facilities inside the terminal.
"From today, future visitors to South Australia who arrive by cruiseships will get an immediate impression that South Australia is a progressive and modern and place to visit," Flinders Ports chief executive Vincent Tremaine said.
"The entire interior has been redesigned to allow for a better flow of passengers disembarking for the many cruiseships which berth at Outer Harbor each year."
Mr Tremaine said 20 of the 27 ships expected to berth in South Australia this cruise season would berth at Outer Harbour.
