Upgrade pushes Newcastle coal capacity to 113mtpa

Coal capacity at the port of Newcastle has increased to 113mtpa following the completion of a major part of the $458m upgrade at the Kooragang terminal.

Port Waratah Coal Services has added three new stackers, installed three reclaimers and upgraded two dump stations and its conveyor system.

The upgrade adds another 11mtpa of capacity to the combined loading capacity.

Two more reclaimers will be replaced by mid-2010.
