An appeal hearing into responsibilities for the Erika disaster moved into its final stage yesterday as the advocate-general, Françoise Mothes, made the prosecution’s closing speech.

No details of her recommendations were available.

Lawyers representing civil claimants have already pressed for confirmation of the convictions pronounced by the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris against the Total oil group, classification society Rina and the Erika’s former owner...
