Leighton, Saipem win $900m Gorgon jetty contract

by Sineva Toevai last modified Nov 13, 2009 11:30 AM

Construction giant Leighton and engineering company Saipem have won a $900m contract to develop the Gorgon liquefied natural gas (LNG) jetty and marine structure for Chevron.

The work involves design, material supply, fabrication, construction and commissioning of the LNG jetty and marine structures, Leighton said.

Design by the consortium was now underway with construction on Barrow Island due to begin in October 2010 and be completed in 2013, the company said.

Concrete caissons will be made at the Australian Marine Complex at Henderson, near Perth, transported to Barrow Island and then lowered on to the sea floor to support the jetty.

The 2.1km jetty will consist of steel trusses about 70 metres long and supported by 55 concrete caissons that lead to the loading platform about 4km from shore.
