Promotion: Paul McLeay appointed NSW ports minister.

Mr Tripodi's other responsibilities have been re-assigned to planning minister Kristina Keneally (infrastructure) and roads minister Michael Daley (finance).

Upper House MP Peter Primrose has picked up regulatory reform from Mr Tripodi and mineral resources from another sacked minister, Ian Macdonald, whose primary industries portfolio will go to lands minister Tony Kelly.

It follows a decision on Saturday to allow the premier, Nathan Rees, to choose his own cabinet (see separate report).

Mr Rees described the reshuffle as a "fresh approach".
