Man of experience: Paul Weedon

"We are very fortunate to have attracted someone of Paul’s calibre and experience and I’m sure he will be a great asset for our organisation," Tasports chairman Dan Norton said.

Dr Norton said that in his current position Mr Weedon’s role encompassed safety, marine and navigation operations, business development, property, security and environmental operations.

He also had experience with major project development in ports and logistics infrastructure.

"Our task now is to further develop our strategic plan and look for new business opportunities to promote economic growth and trade and Paul has the necessary background and experience in these areas, both in Australia and overseas," Dr Norton said.

Dr Norton said the Tasports board thanked departing chief executive Robert Barnes for his leadership over the past four years during the transition to a more modern ports structure.
