Ship recycling plan could be delayed until 2020
THE HONG Kong Convention on Shipbreaking will not take full effect for at least 10 years, according to a policy document drawn up for the European Commission.
Changes brought about by the agreement, otherwise known as the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Ship Recycling Convention, will not be “immediate enough” to tackle the negative effects of a surge in scrapping, the document said.
