Shipping Australia battles Gillard on coastal crews

SHIPOWNER peak body Shipping Australia has locked horns with the federal workplace relations minister, Julia Gillard, over coastal shipping crewing.

Appearing before the full bench of the Australian Industrial Arbitration Commission (AIRC) last week, Shipping Australia defended the right of international shipping operators to run coastal services using crews bound by international rates of pay and conditions.
