Grim outlook for Asian container shipping

THE OUTLOOK for Asia’s container shipping market remains “grim” due to “anaemic” western consumer spending in 2010, according to a forecast from Hong Kong-based HSBC Global Research.

“Even if trade rebounds, the industry faces a massive capacity overhang, with a record level of the fleet being idle and the imminent arrival of large new ships designed to sail the longhaul Asia-US/Europe trade routes,” the report entitled Asia...
