Indian Ocean now ‘unfit for seafarers’

SHIPOWNERS should no longer be permitted to send vessels through pirate-infested waters, according to the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF).

The risk of armed hijackings in the Indian Ocean was now so great that shipowners were breaching their duty of care to crew by sending vessels through the region, the federation said in a new motion adopted by its fair...
