Spencer Gulf ferry service set to return soon
The Sea SA saga has taken a positive turn, with the South Australian ferry operator anticipating the resumption of its Spencer Gulf service from mid-October.
Original hopes of an October 1 resumption date were disrupted when Sea Way, currently on an Adelaide slipway, changed hands unexpectedly from Adelaide-based owners to new owners in the Middle East.
Sea SA was seeking to secure Sea Way, following the recent sale of its previous ferry, Sea Spirit, while construction of its new ferry, Aurora, is completed.
The Aurora is due for delivery next year.
“As the new owners of Sea Way are based in the Middle East, negotiations have been somewhat slow, and not just because of the time difference,” Sea SA managing director Stephanie Dawson said.
"We have respected their personal commitment to observing Ramadan, and so we have had to play something of a waiting game in finalising details for the new lease arrangement.
“We have shared our customers’ frustration and disappointment over the last six weeks, and have been very grateful for their patience and loyalty.
"Fortunately, all indications are now positively pointing towards a mid-October release of Sea Way to us, and we remain committed to providing a world-class car and passenger ferry service between the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas."
