Imports of heavy equipment are likely to weaken further in coming months amid expectations that activity in the mining industry will not pick up any time soon.

The global economic downturn forced several miners to downsize operations or postpone projects this year which has prompted a slump in demand for heavy machinery, Skelton Sherborne director Brad Skelton said.
