Tasports lifts Southern Shipping call ban

Tasmanian Ports Corporation (Tasports) lifted its overnight ban on Bass Strait islands ferry service operator Southern Shipping today, saying it had received payment of outstanding port fees.

The Tasmanian Government-owned ports company had earlier stopped the Matthew Flinders from berthing at Lady Barron on Flinders Island, having lost patience with the shipowner.

King Island Abattoir is still operating

"It has not all been bad news for the company recently, however, with reports of increased King Island traffic following closure of the island's abattoir and a new Flinders Island deal."

The closue of the Island's abattoir in the above statement is incorrect, the abattoir is still operating at this stage.
