GrainCorp becomes world player with United Malt acquisition

GrainCorp has announced plans to buy United Malt, the world's fourth-largest malt producer, for $757m using a mix of equity and debt to fund the acquisition.

The acquisition will transform the Australian agribusiness into an international agribusiness with operations in Australia, Canada, the UK and the US, GrainCorp said in a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange.

GrainCorp's shares were placed in a trading halt this morning...
