Sydney Ports tries to woo Riverina exporters
Senior Sydney Ports Corporation executives visited the Riverina region of south-western New South Wales this week in an effort to woo local exporters.
Sydney Ports chief executive Grant Gilfillan said the corporation's infrastructure upgrades and business process improvements had been aimed at facilitating the needs of exporters from areas including the Riverina.
"In recent years, Sydney Ports has focused on helping to increase the volume of full container exports from NSW, especially from regional areas such as the Riverina," Mr Gilfillan said.
The $1bn Port Botany container terminal expansion will increase terminal capacity for growth in exports and improve access to shipping lines for Riverina exporters, Mr Gilfillan said.
Many parts of the Riverina region are closer to Victorian ports such as Melbourne, increasing the likelihood of key agricultural exports moving south rather than east to Sydney.
