Agriculture exports in WA at record high
Demand from the Middle East and Asia sent agricultural commodities and food exports in Western Australia to a record $6bn last year.
Exports in 2008/09 rose 28% from the $4.7bn in the previous year, WA agriculture minister Terry Redman said.
The Middle East was a key growth market last year with the value of goods transported there growing 19% from last year to a record $1.6bn, he said.
Grain, cattle and meat made up the bulk of the $931m of agricultural goods exported by WA.
Mr Redman said there was now a push for WA to enter new export markets while boosting its presence in existing markets such as Indonesia.
