South-east Asia free trade begins in January

The Federal Government has announced that the free trade agreement with south-east Asian nations will begin on January 1.

Trade minister Simon Crean said the agreement affected 12 countries, including Australia, New Zealand and the 10 members of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

ASEAN members include Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
