The economic downturn could send an increasing number of small to medium road transport and logistics firms to the wall, even as the recovery gets underway, Ferrier Hodgson partner Brendan Richards said yesterday.

Mr Richards, who is involved with the voluntary administration of freight firm Mannway, wrote a prescient article in his company's publication, Ferriers Focus, in July which explored the dangers facing such enterprises and outlined ways they might survive.
