GEOFF Beesley has seen a lot of odds and ends move over the wharf in more than a half a century in shipping. But sometimes even he is surprised at the cargo opportunities that emerge, even in an economic lull.

For the uninitiated, shipping a gold mine through a port seems something of Biblical proportions akin to the proverbial camel passing through the eye of a needle.
