France pushes ahead with port privatisation

THE FRENCH Government has said that it wants to see the transfer of port authority terminal personnel and plant to private sector terminal operators take place during the first quarter of next year.

The announcement, by secretary of state for transport Dominique Bussereau, seeks to put an end to speculation that the government could be hesitating to push port authorities to carry out the transfers in the current economic downturn.
