Panama in detention backdown
THE PANAMA Maritime Authority has been forced into an embarrassing U-turn on a zero tolerance policy towards Panama-flagged vessels detained in Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) port state control inspections before the end of the year.
An advisory sent to the 7,100 commercial vessels flying the Panamanian flag on October 14 warned of “immediate cancellation” of those vessels detained by Paris MoU “from the date of the present notice until the end of 2009”.
