Cargo underwriters bear brunt of trade depression
CARGO insurers have been hit hard by the world recession and expect 2009 data, when it makes the light of day, to show further profit deterioration.
The International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) conference last month heard that cargo underwriters after a decade of expanding their capacity to meet the demand for seaborne trade are heading towards a substantial erosion of earnings.
