Sydney re-opens to shipping after dust clears

by samc last modified Sep 24, 2009 12:41 PM

Port Botany has re-opened to shipping after yesterday's dust storm closed both container terminals and suspended vessel movements.

Sydney Ports closed the port and shipping in Sydney Harbour when a freak dust storm hit the city, reducing  visibility and combining with strong winds to create hazardous conditions.

Port Botany re-opened by midday but was subject to wind-related restrictions.

Winds had eased and the dust cleared by mid-afternoon and the port was operating normally this morning.
