IUMI reports 10% drop in ship casualties

THE INITIAL reading of last year’s insurance data by the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) has found fewer casualties but a mixed picture on serious or partial losses.

With 67 losses declared of ships over 500 gt, the good news is of a 10% drop on 2008 figures, according to IUMI, which compiles and analyses the information from a range of sources.
