P&I clubs warn mergers mean problems

MANAGERS of several medium-sized P&I clubs have warned that consolidation within shipping’s mutual system would create more problems than benefits if a handful of mega clubs were to emerge.

Only three mergers have taken place within the club system during the last 30 years, but there has been increasing speculation that the time may be ripe for greater consolidation, particularly among the elite 13 clubs belonging to the International...
