Singapore clings to top box spot despite crisis

SINGAPORE is set to retain its title as the world’s busiest box port even though container volumes last year fell for the first time since the dotcom bubble burst in 2001.

Provisional figures, which are likely to be confirmed by March, would show the position of the world’s top four box ports – Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Shenzhen – would remain unchanged from 2008, analysts said.
