PHILIPPINE shipping companies may have to post bonds to cover the cost of search, rescue and salvage operations if proposals by a coastguard commander become law.
Commodore Luis Tuason, who is in charge of the coastguard region covering Manila and north Luzon, said requiring companies to pay bonds would overcome uncertainty over who was to blame in maritime casualties.
