Channel charge for coasters

A CAMPAIGN by some shipping lines to have coastal cargo exempted from the Port of Melbourne Corporation’s (PoMC) channel infrastructure charge has failed.

The PoMC, in announcing its 2010/11 port charges last month, notified that the infrastructure levy – which recovers costs associated with the successfully-completed channel deepening project – would rise by 2.5% or 80 cents to $33.10 plus GST per teu...
