Doubts over Chinese ship scrapping scheme
CHINA’s new incentive scheme to encourage shipowners to scrap older vessels has received a mixed reaction from the country’s maritime industry.
Shipowner representatives have in principle welcomed the move.
While other players have questioned the effectiveness of the measures, pointing to the dearth of appropriate legislation governing shipbreaking and the difficulty of changing business practices of some Chinese shipping companies.
