End in sight for boxship oversupply

Surplus containership capacity could be eradicated within 15 months, earlier than many had anticipated when owners and operators first started to put ships into lay-up at the start of the industry's collapse.

In a presentation to the Trans-Pacific Maritime Conference in Long Beach last week, Alphaliner consultant Tan Hua Joo said the best-case scenario now indicated a supply and demand balance by mid-2011.

However, he warned that idle capacity could still reappear...
