Recovery in jeopardy if lay-ups return too quickly

A new report has warned that redeployment of idle container tonnage threatens industry recovery, potentially seeing a “more pronounced seasonal downturn” at the end of this year.

The latest Macro report by container lessor Sea-Axis says that slow-steaming, scrapping, delays in deliveries, cancellations of new orders and lay-up of container vessel capacity had acted as the principal buffer to the fall in box volumes.
