Tankers ‘not affected’ by lift in liability cap
THE TANKER industry is unlikely to be affected directly by efforts in the US to raise liability caps under the Oil Pollution Act 1990 in the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon spill.
According to sources, the proposed increase applies to offshore facilities and not tanker owners, whose obligations towards clean-ups are governed separately by the statute.
Tanker liability limits under OPA 90 have been raised twice since 2006, in line with inflation...
