Lloyd’s List has obtained the letter that the US Internal Revenue Service is understood to be sending to shipowners. It is reproduced below, with names and identities removed:
Our research indicates that for a number of the past 10 tax years, [company name] has been involved in activities related to the exploration and exploitation of natural resources on the US Outer Continental Shelf.
