Fur flies in wake of Tasmanian closure

AUSTAL’S foray into Tasmanian shipbuilding ended in failure last week at the cost of 121 skilled jobs.

The Western Australian high-speed and multihull shipbuilder said the closure was due to the impact of changed market demand for smaller-sized vessels.
The move also comes as Australian builders of advanced passenger and freight ferries struggle with empty contract pipelines.
