Call for move to per km charge for transport
THE FEDERAL Government should consider replacing road taxes with a national pricing model that charges road users by the kilometre, according to a paper released by Infrastructure Partnerships Australia.
IPA’s pricing model found that an average fee of about 8c for each kilometre travelled may be cheaper than the existing road taxes.
It could also see an extra $4bn pumped into new transport infrastructure.
