Obama ransom order raises crew concerns
THE US is expected to come under pressure at the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) maritime safety committee meeting this month to explain in detail moves by the Obama administration to crack down on ransom payments to pirates.
International Chamber of Shipping marine director Peter Hinchliffe said several countries had already indicated their disquiet at the move because of the potential impact on seafarers currently being held or who were subsequently taken hostage.
