New harbour master for Melbourne
Port of Melbourne has appointed Captain Gary Wilson as general manager, marine and navigational services, thereby becoming the port’s harbour master.
Captain Wilson takes over the role from Captain David Shennan who has served PoMC for the past four years.
PoMC chief executive Stephen Bradford said Captain Wilson’s appointment followed a successful international search.
A qualified master mariner, Captain Wilson was attracted to Melbourne from his previous role as head of marine and port services with Hutchison Port Holdings in the UK.
This job included responsibility as harbour master for the ports of Felixstowe and Harwich.
“We are delighted to have Gary join PoMC in the important role,” Mr Bradford said.
“Drawing on his extensive experience at Hutchison Port Holdings and previously at Port of Tyne Authority, Gary will further enhance the expertise of our marine operations to ensure the safe movement of vessel traffic and lead the marine and navigational services team.”
Mr Bradford also acknowledged David Shennan’s “excellent contribution” as harbour master.
