Surge in idled box tonnage

The size of the laid-up container fleet has surged as of mid-January to 268 vessels at a total of 676,000 teu.
Analysts say that the surge is a sign that box lines have moved aggressively to lay up capacity in the face of new deliveries and the winter trading lull.
