Swanland master blames loading for fatal casualty
UNSAFE loading techniques may have contributed to the November loss of he 1977-built, 3137 dwt Swanland in the Irish Sea, which claimed the lives of six seafarers, the vessel’s former master has told a BBC radio documentary.
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch is currently conducting an investigation into the fatal casualty. However, the broadcast added that Maritime and Coastguard Agency inspections of the 34-year-old vessel had uncovered 85 deficiencies in the last five years.
