Mooring system highlighted in Tycoon foundering
An increase in wind speed and sea conditions combined with the failure of an unconventional mooring arrangement caused the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Tycoon to founder off Christmas Island last month.
A preliminary report released late yesterday by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) indicates that steadily increasing swell and wind speeds caused the 78m vessel to move off its moorings at 0600 on January 8.
