Total trade throughput at the Port of Newcastle in the 2011-12 financial year was 128.6 million tonnes (mt), up over 12% from throughput in 2010-11.

Trade in coal made up the bulk of the throughput, reaching almost 122mt, up 13.6mt from last financial year.
