Copper’s leading role in resources boom

New copper mines in Australia will likely boost the nation’s production and export volumes in 2011-12, according to the Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics (BREE).

Copper mine production will rise 2% in 2011-12 to 971,000 tonnes, supported by the Hillgrove Resources mine, Kanmantoo with an annual capacity of 20,000t and the Kimberley Metals’ Mineral Hill operation (10,000t), BREE said.
