MUA: Aussie crews threatened by refinery shutdown

Shipping jobs for Australian seafarers could be at risk with Caltex’s announcement that it will shut down its Kurnell refinery, the Maritime Union of Australia has warned.

Caltex yesterday announced plans to shut down the refinery and convert it into an import and fuel storage facility.

Minister for resources and energy Martin Ferguson estimated that the shutdown will affect approximately 430 Caltex employees, and an additional 300 contractors.
