Import values on the rise
International merchandise import values jumped during the month of May, with Australian Bureau of Statistics showing the value of merchandise imports in May was $20.73bn, 10% up on the figure of $18.8bn in April.

The figure was still slightly down on March, however, when $20.8bn was reported.
A significant contributor was the ‘food and live animals’ category which was valued at $774m in May, compared with $712m in April and $719m in March.
